Scottish Football Journalist

About Angus

Angus Blacklock is a Scottish football journalist with experience in match reporting, press conferences, interviews and feature writing across the Scottish game.

A First Class Journalism graduate from Edinburgh Napier University, Angus has built practical experience alongside his studies, including a championship winning season with Stenhousemuir FC, reporting on Hearts B and work with Hamilton Academical and Youth Football Scotland.

His particular interest is in written football journalism: being at games, speaking to the people involved and finding the stories behind what happens on the pitch. He is equally comfortable working in a press conference environment or conducting one-to-one interviews with players, managers and others within the game.

Angus is now looking to build a career covering Scottish football — from the national team and the Premiership through the SPFL, domestic cups and the wider game..

Selected Work

A selection of Angus's work across Scottish football — from season-long club coverage and match reporting to interviews, commentary and documentary journalism.

STENHOUSEMUIR FC

A Championship Season · 2023/24

Angus spent the 2023/24 season as part of Stenhousemuir's media team, covering a historic campaign that ended with the club winning the SPFL League Two title — the first league championship in its history.

His role covered the full matchday cycle, including match reporting, player and manager interviews, pre- and post-match pieces to camera and commentary, alongside the wider demands of a busy and innovative club media operation.

As the season developed, Angus's pre-match pieces became increasingly inventive, with his work ultimately featuring on BBC Scotland's A View From The Terrace.

PITCH BATTLE

Grass v Astroturf · Documentary · 2026

Produced as a major project for Angus's final Journalism portfolio at Edinburgh Napier University, Pitch Battle examines one of the most persistent debates in Scottish football: grass or artificial turf?

Filmed across Falkirk, Stenhousemuir and Dumbarton, the documentary explores the sporting, financial and community arguments surrounding artificial pitches, hearing from those affected by the debate and examining what changes at the top of the Scottish game can mean for clubs further down the pyramid.

HEARTS B

Hearts Standard · 2025/26

Angus reported on Hearts B throughout their final season in the Lowland League for the Hearts Standard, covering the club's emerging players during an important stage in their development.

The role extended beyond match reporting. Angus followed young Hearts players on loan at league clubs across Scotland, producing features and interviews alongside his regular coverage of the B team.

The result was a season-long view of Hearts' young players both within the club's development side and as they gained experience across the Scottish leagues.
